An entertaining master piece with a message to accept yourself as you are ,has been delivered by director Amar Kaushik and extremely well served by Ayushmann Khurrana through his class apart acting to make us believe how a person goes through different life experiences and obstacles when he becomes a victim of premature balding.
How you feel being called as, Takla, Ganja, or in miserable case Chaand, you feel embarrassed and demotivated , and sometimes wanted to remain isolated from the world. Filled with the bouquet of humor and wit this movie introduces us to Bal Mukund Shukla alias (Bala) ( Ayushmann Khurrana) who once use to have a Tom cruise hairstyle but has now become a barren land with few amount of hairs left . Bala is a salesmen in a beauty fair cosmetic company and sells cosmetic cream and sometimes does stand up comedy to divert his mind through his art of mimicry of bollywood actors to entertain people . Bala’s school classmate Latika ( Bhumi Pednekar) has also gone through the criticism in school due to her dark skin but she has now accepted herself as she is . Latika is now a lawyer . Bala on the other hand has friends and advisers Abhishek Banerjee(Ajju) and Javed Jaffery( Bachchan Bhaiyaa) who comes out with lots of nuskhaas and totkas for bala of hair gain but all gets failed. They take him to a hair transplant specialist but after listening his way of replacing hairs from different areas of body , bala ran away. Bala has a crush on the Tik tok star Pari Mishra ( Yami Gautam) who reflects the current trend of small town influencers on social media and their growing popularity.The hope to re live his golden days comes back when bala’s gets a wig from his father( Saurabh Shukla) as gift whom he thinks that his father was unsuccessful and never able to move ahead in his career of Ranji cricket . After this Bala’s life takes the flight and he becomes the star seller of his cosmetic company , now those who use to make fun of his baldness starts praising Bala for his stylish hairs , meanwhile Bala falls for Pari and they get married .
The table turns when on the next day of marriage Latika comes and lashes out at bala for uploading her morphed fair picture on social media , their conversation is heard by Pari who also finds out that Bala is bald . She felt cheated and leaves him and later filed the case of fraud marriage on him. This incident exposes bala as a fraudster and he becomes a part of news headlines. Latika take the case of bala to save his image and ask about their relationship before marriage . The climax court room drama puts Bala and Pari in front of law where bala requests that if Pari doesn’t want to live with him anymore he is ready let her go and they get divorced . Bala at last realizes why there is a need to change yourselves while doing a marketing of the same fair beauty cream , he removes his wig in front of public and says accept yourself as you are ( “Agar Aap Apne Aap se Pyaar Karenge Toh Duniya Bhi Aapse Pyaar Karegi”) . Therefore Come and fall in Love with Yourself !!
Ayushmann is the main carrier of the movie who shines phenomenally as Bala . He has completely took the movie on his shoulder right from the beginning to the end and never let the movie goes dull and boring. Bhumi looked confident in the character of Latika and does a fine justice with her role , Yami looks cute and charming and she has also done great job . Other characters Like Saurabh Shukla, Javed Jaffery, Abhishek Banerjee also did great job in the movie. The 90s songs like ( Tera naam liya, Kitaabein Bahaut Si and Love tujhe ) through tik tok videos gives nostalgic feeling .
The music and the background score is composed by Sachin Jigar . Lyrics have been written by Mellow D, Jaani ,Badshah, Priya Saraiya , Jigar Saraiya and Bhargav Purohit. The songs Don’t Be Shy and Naah Goriye were most loved by the people.
